Nungu Sharbat / Ice Apple Sharbat

Once again after a long break from the blog.. but this time was completely unexpected.. i think my last post was in feb 2019.. after that life has been a sheer roller coaster... Every time life gets busy blog work always gets abandoned.. feel guilty about it but blogging is something I do with complete peace of mind and need a couple of hours straight to do a single post..  All the words gotta flow from my brain to my fingers.. sometimes i even tell my husband how hard will it be to write a book?

But saying that I try to keep my social media handles active and you can find me posting easy one page recipes now and then... why recipes in social media and not in blog? the recipes i post in social media are short easy and it takes very less time and I do it from my mobile anywhere.. no laptop required.. In Sha Allah will try to post those recipes also soon. meanwhile checkout my fb & insta handles @nilouferriyaz  for more recipe updates.. my insta handle has a lot of recipe tips too..

So whats the recipe today.. When Rafeeda gave the topic for this month for Muslim Food Bloggers Challenge I didnt want to miss it.. as there is gonna be a break due to summer vacations.. Even in the mid I had the recipe ready but totally missed out on the date as I was totally busy. The topic given for MFBC#29 was THIRST QUENCHERS/ COMFORTABLE WARM DRINKS.. no guesses for what I am choosing today.. Since we are spending summers in Qatar this year and I have a recipe in hand I clicked when I went to India in March which was officially the beginning of Summers down south there.

Summers mean you crave for cold drinks .. from fresh fruit juices to milk shakes to mocktails even tang.. but there is one fruit I crave every year  especially after coming to Gulf is the Palm Fruit / Ice Apple / Nungu .. Its a seasonal fruit and its available during summers(march-may) in Tamilnadu but every year I am stuck here when its summers there and when i go to India during vacations in Gulf ( July- August)  its really very rare to find oh how i have missed the fruit. This year our visit fell in the month of march and guess what had Nungu, jackfruit  to my hearts content didnt think making any recipes as i wanted to relish the fruit as such as its a rare delicacy for me..

But one day we made Nungu Sharbat I immediately thought of clicking it and posting it in instagram.. but that didnt happen may be it was destined for a blogpost.. Its a very simple and filling sharbat to make I am sharing all the variations as I dont know when I will get a chance to make them again.
Lets make them.

You Need:

Freshly grated Coconut                    1 cup aprox
Ice Apple / Nungu                            5-6 nos
Sugar

Remove the thick skin from the fruit and wash.
You can chop them or put them in a chutney jar or small processor and pulse it a couple of times.

Serve them cold.

Sweet lime / Mosambi Juice

Blogging after a very long time with a sweet n simple recipe. Sweet lime or Mosambi is one fruit I don't get here in Qatar and I buy them from India every time I come back from vacations. But I always forget to make a blog post on it........ this time I am doing not one post but two ( which will be posted later) with Sweet lime.
Now coming back to the post... Sweet lime/ Mosambi / Saathukkudi juice is quite common in households and juice stalls. There are quite a number of ways this juice is prepared. some add sugar , some add sugar syrup, some add pepper and black salt but I love adding  agave syrup... and to say It is delicious with any addition of any sugar. There is no exact measurement to this recipe just what suits your taste buds. I know this is a very easy recipe.... just a step to kickstart  my blog .

You need:

Sweet Lime    4 nos
Water             1/4 - 1/2 cup
Ice cubes
Agave syrup   1-2 tbsp

Preparation:

Extract juice from sweet lime using either electric juicer or manual juicer.
Add around 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water  to the juice and the agave syrup and mix well.
Pour in a glass tumbler add ice cubes and serve immediately.

Notes:

1) If you are adding ice cold water then omit the ice cubes.
2) You can substitute agave syrup with sugar or simple sugar syrup.
3) You can also add a dash of pepper and black salt too for a different taste.

Sugar-free Rose Syrup & Rose Milk

Wanted to make something innovative, Something not easily available for Priya Suresh's event and here is it. Nowadays people want healthy food and in sweets and desserts they opt for Suger-free products. Many sugarfree syrups and squashes are available in the market but I've not seen Rose Syrup , so thought why not give it a try. Inspired from Ambika's kitchen Imade this syrup. The rose syrup made from refined sugar is thick but this syrup is thin, but no change in flavour.  Sacrifice texture for health. Tried using stevia natural sweetener but its tart flavour did not gel with rose flavour. Then tried with Tropicana Slim Sweetener. was very satisfied with the results.

I think this is a much healthier option from readymade syrup wich contains more sugar. And now with Ramadan coming this would be a suitable option. People with Diabetes can enjoy this Rose Syrup once in a while, and when made from low fat or skimmed milk there is less calories too. Sending them to Priya's announcing-healthy-diet-diabetic

You need:

For Rose Syrup:
Artificial Sweetener               1/2cup
Water                                  1/2cup
Rose water                          1tbsp
Rose essence                       1/2tsp
Red food colour                   few drops

For Rose Milk:
Sugar-free Rose Syrup                      1/4cup
Cold Skimmed/ Low Fat Milk           3/4cup

Preparation:

For Rose-Syrup:
Mix water and sweetener . Heat them for about 3 minutes. Allow this simple syrup to cool.
Then mix with Rose water, essence and food colour. Pour in clean glass bottles and refrigerate.

For Rose Milk:
Mix syrup and milk and enjoy!!
