Nankathai

Nankathai ( We call it naanhatan!), the white little flower shaped sweet which just starts to melt once you pop it in your mouth. It is one such traditional sweet from south indian muslims. In olden days making nankathai was a tough task, grinding in the grinding stone or kodakkal then ferment it and bake it. But now it is not so. You can prepare it in a jiffy.

I will share with you the easy recipe that is given to me by my grandmother who is  a wonderful cook.

You need
All purpose flour (or) Maida         250 gms
Powdered sugar                          160gms
Ghee                                          150gms
Salt                                            a small pinch

Preparation
Sieve the maida well.
Preheat the oven( conventional) to 180*C

In a big thali or tray cream the ghee and sugar together using your fingers.
The mixture should be pale white in colour.

Add the salt. Cream it very well.
Now add the maida little by little and knead it into a soft dough. If the dough is stiff then add little more ghee (Cream it before you add)

Divide the dough into small balls. You can use mold of any shape or size you prefer.
Shape it using the mold .

Bake it in oven for 12 to 15 min( the time varies with each oven )
Do not allow the nankhathais to brown.
The tasty Nankhathai is now ready to eat.
Bon Appetite!
